Specialty coffee and instant coffee are polar opposites of each other. However, for innovators and Co-Founders at San Francisco based company, Sudden Coffee, Kalle Freese and Joshua Zloof are shattering the preconceptions of what specialty coffee should be while creating a new concept that “no-brew” coffee is a totally delectable AND hip trend!
Kalle and Josh have strongly proven that there's not only a demand for great coffee in the marketplace, but a hunger for tasty coffee that can be brought anywhere, anytime. Filling the need, their ground-breaking product has helped gain $2.7 million in its recent seed fund stage from lauded investment company, Charles River Ventures (also invested in companies like Dropbox, Zendesk, Doordash, etc). Huge congratulations!!
Sudden Coffee makes a bold statement that “while it [Sudden Coffee] shares many attributes with instant coffee like its powdery form, calling it that misrepresents what the product is.” Instead, it’s been deemed as no-brew coffee, a finished product that “tastes like coffee you brewed yourself or got at a café, except we did the brewing for you. Instant coffee is about convenience and affordability, while no-brew coffee is about flavor and consistency.”
The company works with world-famous Vancouver, Canada based roasting company, 49th Parallel. Utilizing its current single origin beans, Ethiopia Biftu Gudina, expect to taste notes of peach, amber honey, and a smooth mouth feel throughout the experience. The coffee certainly possesses a delicate finish that just rolls off the palate so effortlessly.
Aside from having the opportunity to try Sudden Coffee from a consumer’s shoes, I’ve also had the humbling privilege to work behind-the-scenes and see what the process is all about. Let me just say that taking part in the barista process and playing a role in developing the product was eye opening.
Due to the meticulous work that goes into making Sudden Coffee, you’re given an on the go, consistent, and tasty product EVERY time. Literally, where you go on the daily, you can opt for great coffee!
Currently, the company has a very limited set available for purchase, something I would highly recommend for those of you who wish to try the product! While it may be too late to receive the pack by Christmas, the best starter kit to try retails at $35 that includes 8 tubes of its no-brew coffee, a custom cut wooden logo ornament, and a special edition holiday card designed by Chris DeLorenzo.
Happy Holidays and leave comments below with your thoughts/questions about Sudden Coffee’s “specialty no-brew coffee!”
