It’s finally been executed: the first all-in-one pour over coffee maker! This means for all of you travelers, business conductors, at home moms, etc. (the list really goes on and on) you can now have freshly ground, on-the-spot pour over coffee! Did I mention that all you need in addition to this handy dandy apparatus is just hot water? Amazing! I know.
As technology and information progresses, so does coffee gear. I am absolutely stoked to have the Cafflano KLASSIC be the first guest in gear reviews. Let’s dive in and take a walkthrough of this amazing device!
At first glance, I just knew that the cylindrical box was waiting to be opened; that this new device would be taken on a whole host of countless adventures. An ample amount of information is provided alone on the box: Best New Domestic Coffee Equipment Winner of the 2015 Nordic World of Coffee, company information (made in Korea), and a pictorial of instructions for brewing out of the KLASSIC.
Upon opening the box, I could immediately feel the build quality that the KLASSIC possesses. The tumbler is composed of polypropylene and stainless steel, a BPA-free material and an eco-friendly option. While having these great advantages, the device's materials ensure that safety is maintained for coffee consumption. The Cafflano KLASSIC is very simple to use. After each step is completed, simply take off the layer, and the next step is revealed.
The top cap is the pouring kettle, while the top lid can be removed to use as a cover to keep the water hot and prevent from spilling. When the top cap is removed, the area to put fresh coffee beans for grinding is shown. Along the sides of this area, there are lines for showing how much coffee is being loaded into the hopper. This feature gives freedom from having to use a scale; minimalism at its best. In total, the hopper can fit about 35 grams of coffee at once.
Now let’s get to the best parts of the KLASSIC: the grinder and filter basket. The grinder that is equipped in the device boasts a fully adjustable ceramic, conical burr grinder. By being able to tighten and lock in the grind setting, this ensures a consistent and uniform grind. With this said, freshly ground coffee is easily accessible with the KLASSIC.
Once the coffee is hand ground and the grinder layer is twisted off, the filter basket with coffee is waiting to be brewed! The filter basket is something very similar to the mechanics of the Able Brewing KONE. What’s especially interesting and a fun fact about the quality of the KLASSIC’s filter basket is that it is chemically etched with the utmost precision by Samsung’s partnered semiconductor company! You are left with a very smooth and trustworthy filter.
After brewing coffee from the KLASSIC, I can say that the taste notes and textures of coffee are comparable to that of a French Press and Nel Drip combined. There are certainly some oils and non-dissolved particles that land in the coffee, giving a silky mouth feel. Because the brew time takes longer than a standard pour over coffee, the taste notes I associate the coffees with are wine-like and deep bodied.
Overall, I find the Cafflano KLASSIC to be a MUST for anyone who travels, adventures, or just wants some amazingly brewed coffee in a small package that packs a punch! Stay on board for what’s to come with this lovely coffee companion.
Also, I want to give a special shout out to Justin Ahn, Managing Director of EMEA and YB Lee, Head of America at Cafflano! This feature was made possible because of these two individuals. Thank you!
Cheers! Until next week, stay fly and caffeinated!
