“Small batch stoneware inspired by the freedom of the mountains.”
For Bay-Area based ceramicist, Jaclyn Souza, Uzumati was created by the inspiration of the mountains.
“Uzumati – a Native American word for ‘great’ or ‘grizzly bear’ is believed to have been the root of the name Yosemite – and a driving influence for Jaclyn, who thinks deeply about the way people interact with nature and their environment when she’s behind the wheel.”
Upon first appearance of the ceramic, you will immediately feel a presence of care and thought that went into the manifestation of this vessel. Carefully hand thrown one-by-one, the Yosemite Valley Mug has unique and slight variations that make each one special. The valley includes major landmarks such as Half Dome and El Capitan enrapturing the mug, each feature that is meticulously etched by hand.
Adventure-seekers and those who want to give back to preserving our earth’s natural resources will certainly covet this mug. For every purchase, Jaclyn will donate 1% of profits back to environmental causes.
This mug, by far, is one of my favorite pieces to enjoy my coffee! To check out Jaclyn’s work, go here.
